Tim’s ‘quickie’ reviews
Visual art
'Changing Spaces' by Jonathan O'Dea is an impressive sculptural intervention in an ecology centre and nature reserve in Waltham Forest. The WaterWorks on Lammas Road (off Lea Bridge Road) Leyton E10 is situated in the Lea Valley Regional Park and O'Dea's work reflects the industrial heritage and reclaimed present of the site - a former filter beds allowed to go back to nature in a managed way. The work, on show until 8 July, is three-dimensional/sculptural created from found objects in the Lea Valley Regional Park and also the Olympic Park. As such, it is a meditation on urban decay and regeneration, and the awesome power of nature to reclaim the depredations (and degradations) of mankind. The permanent legacy of this exhibition will be the reclaimed 3 metre fallen tree which has been re-sited, and re-erected, in the grounds, encased in steel bands and mesh and studded with nails as a reminder of man's futile attempts to impose permanence in, and control over, nature. http://wwwchangingspaces.blogspot.co.uk/
