Our Mission:
FAQs Unlimited is based in the London Borough of Waltham Forest. Its mission is to promote engagement with topical social, cultural and political issues and encourage lively debate around them. In its support of free speech FAQs Unlimited is always mindful of Voltaire's dictum, "think for yourselves and allow others the privilege of doing so, too." However, FAQs Unlimited believes that the hard-won right of free speech should be exercised with responsibility and sensitivity. As a cautionary opinion (sometimes attributed to Voltaire, but actually by the American jurist, Oliver Wendell Holmes) puts it, "my right to swing my fist ends where the other man's nose begins." In his passionate defence of the Constitiutional right to freedom of speech, Holmes again summed up the matter neatly thus, "the most stringent protection of free speech would not protect a man falsely shouting 'fire' in a theater and causing a panic."
